Beijing, P.R.China – March 25, 2008 – Beijing Digital Transvideo Technology Co, Ltd, the leading provider of digital video core technology and IPTV solutions, announced the release of i-Box/2000-C, a new generation digital IPTV Set-Top Box (STB) suitable for both Internet-delivered content and for private networks. Using Transvideo’s core technology and adopting an optimized H.264 CODEC algorithm, i-Box/2000-C delivers standard definition, DVD quality pictures at bit rates ranging from 700Kbps~1.2MKbps. A variety of features such as live broadcast, time shift, VOD and other interactive value-added services can be simultaneously supported by i-Box/2000-C.
i-Box/2000-C uses the CC1100 Media Processor, a new fully programmable multi-core DSP solution-on-chip (SoC) developed by C2 Microsystems Inc. The CC1100 Media Processor uses a RISC architecture and is Linux-based, making software development and migration straight-forward. By taking advantage of the powerful processing performance of the CC1100 Media Processor and the strong technical support offered by C2 Microsystems Inc, the time required to develop i-Box/2000-C was greatly reduced; moreover, i-Box/2000-C has been greatly improved in terms of its performance, functionality and quality over earlier offerings, realizing the multi-service support and highly-interactive experience demanded by IPTV operators. The use of the CC1100 Media Processor greatly improves the i-Box/2000-C’s processing performance, which not only makes it possible to present subscribers with a better quality picture but also offers a path to more complex applications; meanwhile, the single-chip STB solution can help to increase the i-Box/2000-C’s reliability and stability, reducing the maintenance cost for IPTV operators accordingly.
In addition to Transvideo’s optimized H.264, a wide variety of codecs such as standard H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 ASP, MPEG-2, are all supported by i-Box/2000-C. Furthermore i-Box/2000-C, in common with Transvideo’s previous products, is able to work in networked environments such as Cable Modem, ADSL, and Ethernet and can provide various video/audio input and output interfaces. Besides wired connections, i-Box/2000-C is also suitable for a wireless environment, having support for the external addition of WiFi to i-Box/2000-C via USB to connect with a family wireless modem, so that subscribers may enjoy TV programs in their living room, dining room, bedroom, or any other place they prefer in their house without the need to lay any new wire.
i-Box/2000-C also introduces a multilayer OSD display, making the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) more three-dimensional and attractive. As subscribers watch a TV program, they can choose to view or change the channel via a semitransparent EPG, thereby greatly enhancing subscribers’ TV experience. Moreover the use of the OSD application as a front end to an IPTV system platform allows i-Box/2000-C to realize interactive services such as on-line voting and interactive TV commercials with an appealing user interface.
“With its IPTV end-to-end solution and multiple application support, Transvideo has achieved considerable success in the international IPTV market. The launch of i-Box/2000-C brings more business opportunities for IPTV operators and greatly enhances the TV experience for subscribers.” Wang Yunchuan, CEO of Transvideo, said. “As a provider of IPTV technology and solution, Transvideo continues to develop new products to address the global booming IPTV market. i-Box/2000-C, the new generation STB developed by Transvideo, features more powerful functionality, a smaller footprint and greater reliability, and we are looking forward to co-operating with more operators in the development of their IPTV business.”
“i-Box2000-C is the fruit of a collaboration between engineers from Transvideo and C2 Microsystems Inc. I am pleased to witness i-Box2000-C being launching into the market. Transvideo, a world leading provider of end-to-end IPTV solutions, has shown its strength in IPTV technology with its flexible system architecture, fast encoding algorithms, highly efficient network transmission solutions, high speed channel-changing technology and other achievements which have been developed by its elite team of engineers. I have great confidence that Transvideo will achieve success both at home and abroad with its IPTV system.” Dr. Liu Jinxiang, CEO of C2 Microsystems Inc, said. “IPTV is the best example of the combination of telecommunication technology and video technology. Making use of the network environment to present subscribers with a fresh TV experience based on Internet is strongly dependent on the chip architecture and the its use in the end device. The booming IPTV market has offered both huge business potential and big challenge for DSP SoC producer. Taking an existing SoC developed for the traditional digital broadcast infrastructure and altering it to address the IPTV application effectively would present a challenge for the SoC producer. C2 Microsystems Inc is continuing its cooperation with Transvideo to give subscribers a more exciting IPTV experience and better IPTV applications through Transvideo’s IPTV platform. ”
