Network Media Player
Overview
The Network Media Player reference design from C2 Microsystems is a complete silicon and software solution for consumer electronics manufacturers wishing to introduce a high-quality network media player with reduced engineering investment. It is also a convenient starting point for design houses and manufacturers wishing to develop differentiated value-added products. It is based on the innovative CC1100 Media Processor, which brings high applications processing performance and wide audio and video codec support to consumer electronics applications.
Features
The Network Media Player reference design supports a number of features that are based on several types of connectivity:
The features can be tailored according to the requirements of the end application.
Local Connectivity
The Network Media Player allows a number of different types of device to be connected, either directly through USB or indirectly through a Flash Card reader. The player supports standard USB device classes and Flash Card memory types.
The Network Media Player supports the following local connectivity features:

PC Connectivity
The Network Media Player may be connected as a USB device directly to a PC. The PC then controls the transfer of content to and from the player. The Network Media Player supports the following PC connectivity features:

Home Network Connectivity Network Attached Storage
The Network Media Player may connect to the home network as a storage device. Other devices on the network may then transfer content to and from the player. The player may simultaneously play back content stored on the device.
The Network Media Player supports the following Network Attached Storage features:

Home Network Connectivity Digital Media Adapter
In addition to playing back content stored locally, the Network Media Player may access content residing on devices elsewhere in the network. The player supports the discovery of content in the home network using UPnP.

Broadband Connectivity Peer to Peer Sharing
The Network Media Player may also access content stored on the internet through peer-to-peer distribution using BitTorrent protocols. The Network Media Player supports the following P2P features:

Hardware
The Network Media Player is supported by a hardware platform that permits a wide variety of end applications to be developed, while allowing for straight-forward cost optimization of the manufactured product.
