C2 Microsystems Announced CC1100 Media Processor Released (November 17, 2006)

SAN JOSE, CALIF. November 17, 2006 - C2 Microsystems, Inc., the leading developer of fully programmable media processor for low cost, high performance and networked media, today announced the release of second generation Media Processor, the CC1100, which is a high performance, fully software programmable SoC (System on Chip) designed for Networked Media Devices and Portable Media Devices with HD decoding capability and SD encoding capability for multiple formats of digital multimedia.

Compared to its ancestor, the CC1000, there are improvements in several areas. The CC1100 increased the highest core frequency to 350MHz from former 250MHz, and at the same time, the power consumption drops significantly with optimized power circuit design. "The CC1100 can support dual channels MPEG-4 encoding at D1 resolution". Said Jinxiang (Gene) Liu, Ph.D., President and CEO of C2 Microsystems, "The multiple power profiles mechanism is a featured design, which will improve CC1100 competency in the Portable Media Player market".

The CC1100 also integrated a new hardware unit to accelerate the H.264 encoding and decoding efficiency, a new TV encoder unit to support analog video output to save PCB BOM cost. Another exciting improvement of CC1100 is the power consumption. "We offered lower power consumption with higher frequency and improved power circuit design", Steve Stone said, Vice President of Engineering from C2 Microsystems.

The CC1100 is the ideal solution for Digital Media Devices including STB, PVR, Media Center and Digital Surveillance System and Portable Media Devices like PMP, MP4. Customers can order fully functional CC1100 samples from Jan 5, 2007. Applications and products based on the CC1100 will be demoed on CES 2007.
